The environmentalist and Green political response is centered on confrontational politics that was in vogue in the 20th century as socialist ideology. Polemical discourse and confrontational methods push people into opposing factions and resolve nothing. This has been the result of organizations such as the Nonviolent Action Group and the Nonviolent Resources Group active in other protest over the years which were promoted by people in the Green Party and the Argenta Quaker Meeting. Blockading roads and blocking off people's entry to their work places are not activities consistent with Gandhian nonviolence, Mahatma Gandhi never did these things and the confrontations, conflicts and fighting that resulted form these activities are testimony to the underlying violence in the politics surrounding the issues. This meeting at the Lardeau Valley Hall is an indication that the conflicts and fights will continue in the community and activists will continue their attacks on working people.
On a global scale it matters little if this project goes, although, certainly it is green in regard to the production of energy without producing green house gasses. One has to wonder about the security of the environment that would saved by not developing this project if global warming is not halted. Future increases in power production are most likely to come from either nuclear reactors or new coal burning stations, renewable sources are only viable to mitigate the environmental damage; the scale of the problem is immense; for example:
China is building power plants at a rate of at least two new 500 MW coal-fired facilities each week; and the concern they have for the value of life is shown by estimates that suggest that almost 6000 people were killed in the Chinese coal industry in 2005 alone.(Physics Web)
